Pedestrian accidents often lead to devastating injuries, or even fatalities, for victims. Unfortunately, these incidents are not uncommon in and around the San Francisco area. At Allegiance Law, our San Francisco pedestrian accident lawyers want to discuss a recent collision that took the life of a woman in the Western Addition of SF. This tragic incident shows just how dangerous reckless driving can be for pedestrians around the city.

What Happened In This Sf Pedestrian Crash?

On Aug 11, 2020, a driver struck and killed a pedestrian in San Francisco’s Western Addition. The incident occurred at approximately seven in the morning and officers who responded to the fatal incident on Geary Blvd. and Gough St. tried to resuscitate a 50-year-old man who was struck. Their efforts were unsuccessful, and the man died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was a 26-year-old man who remained at the scene after the collision and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators initially said that drugs were not a factor in the incident, but the driver was later arrested and booked into the San Francisco County jail. The driver has been charged with manslaughter, reckless driving, speeding, and entering a crosswalk on a red signal.

This incident is still under investigation by the San Francisco Police Department.

Pedestrian Accidents Are Often Devastating

The reality is that pedestrian accidents are not uncommon in this area, and they are often caused by the careless or reckless actions of other drivers, similar to the case above. At Allegiance Law, our San Francisco pedestrian accident attorneys find that drivers fail to respect pedestrian right-of-way laws. This can lead to drivers striking pedestrians in marked crosswalks. Of particular concern for pedestrians in San Francisco are drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs or distracted by their cell phones or other devices.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, there were more than 14,000 pedestrian injuries and around 900 pedestrian fatalities during the latest reporting year across the state.

Unfortunately, those who survive pedestrian incidents often sustain severe injuries, including:

  • Broken and dislocated bones
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Internal organ damage or internal bleeding
  • Amputations or crush injuries
  • Severe lacerations or puncture wounds
