We have learned that there was a fatal wrong-way vehicle crash on the freeway near Clarendon Road. The California Highway Patrol tells us that a Toyota Prius was going southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a Chevy Silverado head-on.

Two passengers in the Prius died and one was severely injured. Two people in the Silverado were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The force of the crash was tremendous, as is apparent in the photos of the crash.

“Drivers need to be aware as they’re entering a freeway that they’re doing it properly,” said Sgt. Fawson of CHP. At this time, police do now know if drugs and alcohol were a factor in this crash but they say they often are.

At Allegiance Law, we are here when you need a San Francisco car accident attorney. Our knowledgeable and experienced team will work with you to secure the compensation you need for all of your accident-related expenses.

The Hard Statistics

We know that vehicle accident is a reality, especially in and around major cities like this one. When we look at California as a whole, we see that during the latest reporting year there were:

  • 3,623 traffic-related fatalities
  • More than 12,000 serious injuries caused by traffic accidents

Closer to home, in San Francisco, there were 5,250 people injured or killed during the same reporting year.

When we talk about injuries, we realize that most vehicle accidents only cause minor injuries. However, even minor injuries can lead to expensive medical bills that people will struggle to pay if insurance does not provide coverage. For more serious injuries, the costs can become astronomical. Consider the following:

  • Spinal cord injuries with paralysis
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Internal bleeding or organ damage
  • Major soft tissue damage

Not only do these injuries require emergency care, but victims often need long-term rehabilitation. In the worse scenarios, a person may be permanently disabled and need lifelong care for their injuries.

While we do not know the exact cause of the accident discussed above, we often find that driver negligence plays a role. This can include drivers who are impaired by drugs or alcohol, those who are distracted by their phones or other devices, as well as those who are speeding and driving aggressively.

Moving Forward After An Injury
